Dayle Colpitts have been named to the Canada Senior Women's National Team for an international friendly against Norway. Canada’s women’s national team will gather for a two-week camp in Gaithersburg, MD. The camp runs 18-27 May and precedes the national team’s trip to Hamar, Norway for an international match against Norway. The camp is part of Canada’s 2010 preparations for the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, expected to be played this October and November. AMANDA ROBINSON - U20 CANADA WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
FACT FILE Name: Amanda Robinson Date of Birth:February 17, 1988 Currently playing for: U20 Canada Women’s National Team Previous club: FDSA select/premiership soccer team from U14-U16. CurrentUniversity:University of Ottawa
Amanda Robinson, a Fredericton home grown product played her junior and youth soccer for Fredericton District Soccer Association (FDSA) and Soccer New Brunswick Provincial and Canada Games Teams. Currently studying at University of Ottawa, Robinson has been named in the U20 Canada Women’s National Team this year. She represented Canada in a 4-Nations Tournament held in Chile recently where Canada won the tournament. Robinson made her international debut against Mexico and also played against New Zealand in the tournament. Robinson is currently in residential camp with the U20 Canada Women’s National Team preparing for the up-coming U20 Women’s World Cup to be held at the end of November in Chile.
Following is an interview with Amanda Robinson after returning from the 4-Nations Tournament in Chile. What years did you play in the New Brunswick Provincial teams? I played for the NB Women's Canada Games soccer team in 2005. We trained together for over a year prior to that. Other than that team I didn't really play provincial soccer. When I was younger, there wasn't very much happening with provincial teams. Provincial teams were not very well known and were in the development stage. The program was far from where it is today. There was no major All-Stars tournament like there is today. I played for 2 provincial teams sometime before 2004. However, it was simply a few weekends of training and then we played a mini tournament against other Atlantic provinces and it ended there. The program only lasted about 3-4 weeks in the summer and there was nothing beyond that. What university are you currently studying and playing for? I am currently playing for the University of Ottawa. I would be going into my third year with the team this season however I am with the U20 national team in residency camp. Therefore I still have three years of eligibility left. What was it like to be part of the U20 Canada Women's National training camp? So far this experience has been terrific. I have the opportunity to play soccer with the best players in the country, for this age group, everyday. What more could a player ask for. It is a challenge at times, but I really enjoy being pushed to the limit, I think I will gain allot through this experience and hopefully will be able to share what I've learned and gained with others. I enjoy the training sessions, the coaching staff, and the team. It really is a great overall environment. I am surrounded by so many talented individuals, all of whom share the same dream and are working hard to achieve it. What is it like being camp in Chile? Again it was an awesome experience, not only did I experience a different culture, but I was able to live and experience a small portion of what international/Olympic athletes do everyday. Miles away from home, family and friends. New food, new people, new culture. Learning to adjust to all these new things isn't always easy. You need to be very focused and not let yourself get distracted by all the surroundings. We had the opportunity to not only play games, but to train as well. The training sessions were similar the ones we have back in Vancouver, it simply took place on a different field. Training camp in Chile was a great opportunity for the entire team to see what it will be like at the World Cup. When the final team returns to Chile in November, we will already know what to expect in terms of food, weather, culture, etc... It was a very positive trip for the entire group. How was the experience playing your first international match against Mexico? I have dreamed about playing for the national team for a long time, and I feel so blessed being given the opportunity to wear the Canadian jersey and represent Canada. Although it may sound cliché, it really is such an honour to play for your country. It was such an incredible feeling, earning my first caps for Canada. I will admit I was nervous, but at the same time eager to play. I really didn't remember much from either game, (Mexico or New Zealand), until I watched it on video after. When you step on the field your adrenaline starts to rush and you zone into the game, your not really aware of anything else going on, your full concentration and focus is on the game. It was experience I hope many others get to live as well. What is your goal for this year? My goal is to be part of the U20 Women’s World Cup team. I want to go to Chile once again and this time, compete in the U20 Women’s World Cup. I want to be part of the first Canadian Women's team to win a World Championship. I want to win the U20 Women’s World Cup. In January, when I return to university, my goal is to stay in top shape and to continue to develop as a player in hope of being invited to another National camp. My ultimate goal is to make the Senior Women's National Team, and I am going to keep working hard until I get there. How is your university studies and soccer going? University is going very well, I had two terrific seasons with the Gee Gees, I am very pleased with the success we have had. I also changed my program of study recently. I am looking forward to starting my new program. I was in: B.Sc. honours in Biology, for my first two years of university. Now I am registered in: B.Sc honours in psychology. The only difference is my specialization. West Region Soccer would like to wish Amanda all the best with the U20 Canada Women’s National Team as they prepare to compete in Chile in late November for the U20 Women’s World Cup.
